Calling Young Movie Makers!
Magic Movie Maker is a new iPad app supported by Sobi – Swedish Orphan Biovitrum AB (publ) – that makes children with haemophilia the stars of their own short movies. Alongside their friendly cartoon co-star, children can talk in a fun and engaging way about living with haemophilia – or whatever is on their mind!
The Magic Movie Maker app is for children aged 5–10 years to use together with their parents or carers. The app is designed to be enjoyable and put children at ease, allowing them to talk freely about their experiences of haemophilia. The app also features a non-haemophilia-related movie just about the child and fun things they like to do, so that siblings or friends can enjoy the app too.
The movies you make could be shown to family members, friends or teachers – or shared with them via social media – to help them understand more about haemophilia, or just for fun!
The app has three movies:
• All About Me – the child meets their cartoon co-star and talks about what they like to do for fun.
• The Missing Factor – the child talks to their co-star about haemophilia and the missing factor that causes it, and discusses what everyday life with haemophilia involves.
• Taking My Special Factor – this movie focuses on haemophilia factor medicines to help explain what Factor is and how it is taken.
For every movie the child chooses one of three friendly co-stars: Squeak, the friendly young dragon still learning the art of fire-breathing; Captain Courageous, the lantern-jawed super hero who always looks out for his buddies; or Archie, the enthusiastic but forgetful robot who came back from the future with a special mission – if only he could remember what it was!
The Magic Movie Maker app was developed with funding and support from Sobi – Swedish Orphan Biovitrum AB (publ). The makers of the app are very grateful to Dr Kate Khair, a consultant haemophilia nurse, for advice on the haemophilia content and co-ordinating testing, and Dr Juliet Starbuck, a chartered psychologist, for her advice and support.
The Magic Movie Maker app is compatible with the iPad 3 or newer, and the iPad Mini, running iOS 7 and above, and is completely free to download and use. The app is in English, with translations into a number of other languages planned.
